Epitalon, also known as epithalon or AEDG, is a synthetic peptide composed of four amino acids: Alanine, Glutamic acid, Aspartic acid, and Glycine. It is primarily studied for its potential effects on aging, particularly in relation to telomeres and circadian rhythms. Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division, and their length is associated with cellular aging. Research indicates that epitalon may enhance telomerase activity, an enzyme that can extend the lifespan of cells by maintaining telomere length. In a study by Khavinson et al. (2003), it was reported that epitalon raised telomerase activity and extended the dividing lifespan of human fibroblasts beyond the usual limit.

Additionally, epitalon is linked to the regulation of the body's circadian rhythm, which controls sleep patterns and melatonin production. The timing of epitalon administration is often aligned with natural melatonin rhythms, with many protocols recommending evening dosing. This connection to melatonin may explain some of the peptide's effects on sleep and overall well-being.

Despite the promising mechanisms, it is important to note that there is no large, blinded human trial that has tested a specific epitalon injection dose against a placebo for telomere length.
